St-Arnould, born in Flanders, is recognized as the patron saint of brewers. He became abbot in 1087. A widely spread legend claims that when the plague hit Flanders, and the water was contaminated, he blessed a barrel of beer. Those who drank it were spared the disease. The miracle of Saint Arnould?
