Beware of Classified Ad Scams

Visitors of Mont Tremblant often try to search for the best Tremblant vacation rentals on the web. There are numerous vacation rentals classified listing sites that offer various properties throughout the seasons. Unfortunately, there is always the risk of falling for a scam when using websites that don’t verify the authenticity of their content such as Craigslist.

On classified sites that list vacation rentals, scammers will often try to entice consumers by offering a property at a ridiculously low price.  Our best advice; beware of classified ads that look too good to be true because more often than not, it’s a scam.

If you are surfing the internet for any type of accommodation, pay attention to the following details:

Does the ad show a local phone number?
To be sure you are dealing with a local company or individual, avoid ads with unknown area codes on their contact information.

Does the ad ask to wire transfer money?
A legitimate local company will always offer you to pay by credit card, so you know who is charging your card and you will always have a way to track your money.

Does the ad show contact information including business name, email, and address?
Many scam artists are trying to stay anonymous by avoiding to give you any real contact information. It is easy to find information about an existing business or landlord.
